I think Indigo's on-time strategy is quite smart actually (regardless of whether it manages to keep up to it.)

As a low cost carrier, this 'on-time' strategy gives them a pitch to talk to the business traveller - for punctuality is not as important for non-business travellers. While I understand Indigo is an approved airline for lots of companies, why else would individuals working in those companies choose a low cost airline when the options are Jet or Kingfisher?

This 'on-time' message also gives the cost-saving flyer a chance to project a different - more face-saving - ready-made reason for why he's flying Indigo. (These cost-saving proxy-flyers could also be organistaions looking to cut costs but couching that with other reasons.)

And this on-time strategy is wonderful in yet another way. It has a grain of truth - I haven't flown Indigo myself but anecdotally everyone seems to think they are more efficient than the other airlines.

As a bonus, when things go smoothly and on time - Indigo takes all the credit (perhaps some not due to them.) And when they don't, people will understand - we know how chaotic things are at the airport.

Either way Indigo stands to gain.
